Professoriate Positions, Faculty of Nursing The Faculty of
Nursing at the University of Calgary is in the midst of significant growth
and renewal, and we are seeking exceptional nursing academics to join us.

health care problems and enhances our teaching mandate.

Tenure track positions are currently available in the professoriate ranks

One appointment will be made at the rank of assistant professor for an

The Health Compliance Officer's role is to provide the clinical and
professional expertise required to monitor compliance with Infection
Prevention & Control (IPC) Standards, Emergency Health Services (EHS)
legislation and Continuing Care Health Service Standards (CCHSS).

Duties include, but are not limited to: research and analysis, development
of risk assessments to aid audit planning, front-line onsite compliance
audits, and providing recommendations to resolve issues found through the
reviews and investigations of compliance. Results may include recommended
changes to the standards or legislation as required.

To be successful in this position, you will have the ability to analyze
complex, multi-faceted issues, develop recommendations, and communicate

Qualifications: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Health Related Science

as travel throughout the Province of Alberta is mandatory. Experience

Senior Practice Leader, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Reporting to the Vice President, BC Women's Hospital and funtionally linked 
to NICU and the Chief of Nursing, you will be a leader, innovator, knowledge 
translater, and change agent who is accountable for promoting excellence in 
nursing practice and quality of patient care. The scope of practice of the 
Senior Practice Leader (SPL) is both broad and complex, encompassing complex 
patient care planning, consultation, education, dissemination of research 
and administration across programs and systems. The incumbent possesses 
expertise in advanced communication, leadership and expert problem solving 
skills. The SPL advances knowledge creation and uptake by engaging in or 
supporting the use of current research, evidence/best practice standards in 
order to address professional, program and patient problems and concerns. 
The SPL supports professional, practice, program and organizational goals in 
collaboration with the President, the Vice Presidents, the Chief of Nursing 
and others. The Senior Practice Leader provides a leadership role in liaison with 
Community/Public Health organizations and practitioners throughout BC and 
consults, advises, organizes and teaches provincial neonatal/perinatal/women's health 
education programs in partnership with other care providers.

Key Responsibilities include:
. Acts as a resource and consultant for local, provincial and national
planning in the area of neonatal/perinatal, and/or women's health care and
advanced clinical practice approaches at the program, organizational,
community, provincial, national and international levels.
. Advises the Vice Presidents, physicians, nursing and other providers
across and beyond the boundaries of the organization about issues related to
neonatal/perinatal women's health care to promote optimum and effective
resource allocation. Participates in the development, implementation and
evaluation of local, provincial, and national patient care standards and
professional practice standards through mentoring, committee membership and
organizational and cross organizational task forces and committees.
. Promotes evidenced-based practice and shares knowledge about current
research and literature including innovation in practice, complications of
pregnancy and management of complex situations. Establishes opportunities
to support staff in implementing evidence based practice and in clinical
research endeavors and promotes and advances best practice through
publications, presentations, and conferences.
. Plans, implements and evaluates appropriate educational programs
based on ongoing needs assessment, in collaboration with educators and other
professional staff.
. Pursues formal relationships (including through joint appointments)
with academic programs in university settings (BCIT, University of BC,
University of Victoria), with professional associations and with other
organizations involved in perinatal (including neonatal) and women's health

provides support for the development of outreach initiatives in line with

programs and coordinates with other medical/nursing experts to present
workshops. Represents the hospital on external committees and with external
bodies, including the Ministries as required.
. Scans the environment and the literature to identify emerging
practice trends and challenges and implements strategies to address
challenges. Leads and manages complex and innovative projects and
initiatives and engages all disciplines to find solutions.

To be successful in this role you will need a level of education, training,
and experience equivalent to a Masters Degree in Nursing, or related field
and five (5) years recent related experience in progressively senior
leadership positions or advanced practice roles. Eligible for registration
with the College of Registered Nurses of BC (CRNBC) and hold current
certification in CPR is necessary. Ideally the incumbent will demonstrate
professional leadership by holding a certification relevant to the program
area such as Neonatal Specialty Nursing Certificate or a CNA Certification
in Perinatal Nursing.

The incumbent for this role will also have demonstrated knowledge and
clinical experience in neonatal/perinatal nursing, and/or women's health and
will have experience in teaching and program development. This position
thus requires strong facilitation skills, and an ability to communicate
effectively both orally and in writing. The SPL participates as an
effective member of an interdisciplinary care team. The Senior Practice
leader is an advanced practice nurse who demonstrates leadership through
teaching, dissemination of research, and mentoring as well as modelling
problem solving skills within a complex challenging environment and across
the health care system with a wide variety of patients, practitioners, and others.

Reporting to the Quality Improvement/Risk Management Manger, this position
supports the strategic goals and objectives of the corporate Infection
Prevention and Control Program; provides Infection Control expertise
within the Whitehorse General Hospital to prevent, and/or minimize,
nosocomial infection to patients; conducts necessary baseline surveillance
and analysis of data for the purpose of identifying, reporting and making
recommendations related to Infection Control issues

The following are knowledge and skills required for this position:

. Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care practices;
. Basic understanding of the principles of cleaning, disinfection and
sterilization processes;
. Understanding of the modes of transmission of infection;
. Basic understanding of and ability to identify Infectious Diseases processes;

A Baccalaureate Degree and 2 to 3 years in an acute care setting or a
