Job Description

PURPOSE
The Head Nurse will ensure the health and well-being of Camp Tidnish campers, volunteers and
staff in accordance to Camp Tidnish and Easter Seals Nova Scotia policies and procedures.

Job Requirements


Qualifications:
 Must be a graduate of a Nursing program and be an RN or LPN licensed to practice in New Brunswick
 Must be a team player
 Must be in good physical health, be emotionally mature, have good morale and be professional
 Must possess strong initiative, leadership, communication and organizational skills
 Must be willing to adjust and adhere to camp policies and procedures
 Must always keep in mind the “Campers Come First” philosophy
 Must have the qualities required to be a positive role model to campers and staff
 Must show ability to work independently with minimal supervision and be prepared to
take initiative
 Experience working with persons with disabilities an asset
 Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search


Responsibilities:
 Take part in all recommended training sessions;
 Responsible for all aspects of health, safety and welfare of campers and staff
 Maintain all health and safety aspects of the camp at the highest possible level, in
cooperation with other camp staff;
 Use all available tools to get the necessary knowledge from each camper’s application
and medical forms to ensure the best possible and most appropriate treatments;
 Administer all campers’ medications and treatments according to physician’s orders and
at the scheduled time;
 Record all medication administered to campers;
 Draft a list of stock medications, giving indications for their proper use, appropriate
dosages, route of administration and frequency (done prior to start of camping session
and kept in the medication binder);
 Ensure the Health Lodge is locked when not in attendance;
 Let appropriate staff know his/her whereabouts at ALL times;
 Report all admissions to the Infirmary and any pertinent information to the Camp
Director;
 Ensure the “Disease Outbreak Management Plan” is appropriate and is followed when
necessary;
 Maintain the Health Lodge and emergency kits;
 Regularly clean and sanitize the Health Lodge throughout the camping season;
 Ensure documents such as Incident and Accident Reports, Seizure Reports, etc. are
understood and properly filled out by staff;
 Be available to campers and staff 24 hours per day during each camp session;
 Maintain an inventory of Health Lodge supplies, and follow a given budget (all supply
orders must have prior approval from the Camp Director);
 Complete an end of season inventory of all Health Lodge supplies;
 Ensure that all nursing records and reports are completed accurately and kept up to
date. A short report of all pertinent information must be updated daily;
 Ensure that Bath and Bowel Charts are posted in every cabin, checked daily and
appropriate action is taken as required;
 Gather and communicate any pertinent information to the parents/guardians of the
campers on the first and last days of each session;
 Be familiar with the Crisis Management Plans in order to be comfortable in the role of
Crisis Manager;
 Supervise the Infirmary Assistant in conjunction with the Camp Director;
 Other duties as requested by the Camp Director;
